Been there, done it, but thankfully outgrew it. I was a self-help junkie in my early to mid 20s and sometimes I would get something of value from the books I read. However, I always took everything with a grain of salt; keep what works, ditch the rest.
But there are people out there who are acolytes of this philosophy. They attend one seminar after the other or tout themselves as experts because they read a book or two on the topic. Personally, I think over immersion in these activities give people a false sense of progress. Things aren't coming up roses, then read another book! Facing yourself isn't easy and sometimes this can be a delaying tactic for a lot of people
